Volunteer Spotlight

This month we're thrilled to highlight one of our amazing volunteers, Tom Heuer. This helpful Board Volunteer, Tom Heuer, shares the impact Art in Action has made for him and others in the community.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering and being a Board member?
I have been here since 3/26/2021 and I enjoy the opportunities we have to get involved in community projects and helping the staff think strategically about growing the organization’s presence both locally and throughout the country. I also appreciate and value all of the relationships I’ve built with other board members and the teamwork of the board and staff as we all work toward advancing Art in Action’s mission and moving the organization forward.

That’s amazing Tom- we love having you.
What has been your favorite project that you have worked on with our non-profit?
Easily the mural project because that was a great way to immediately get involved with the team and meet everyone shortly after joining the board. I’ve also enjoyed reaching out to our donors for continued support, and I look forward to continuing to reach out to our donors and hearing their passion toward supporting Art in Action.

What does Art in Action mean to you?
Art in Action means being part of a larger effort to give back to the community and advance arts education in schools where arts education may not be available due to limited staff and/or resources. Arts education is taken for granted in many well-funded schools but should be available to classrooms of all sizes and from all economic and social backgrounds.

How has volunteering with our non-profit affected your own personal or professional life?
As a retirement plan advisor, my job is to make sure that the employees of my clients are on track financially for retirement. As a board member, I’ve been given a great opportunity to help a different demographic, both the Art in Action staff and the community the staff is involved with, and being able to spend my time and energy toward this mission has been personally rewarding. Knowing that I’m helping the staff advance the organization’s mission on an ongoing and strategic basis has given me something to look forward to outside of work.

We are so happy to hear that!
What role do you think volunteers play in supporting the mission and goals of our non-profit?
Volunteers are critically important to Art in Action’s mission and goals by bridging the gap between limited staff and financial resources. Without volunteers, both individuals and corporates, Art in Action would be a much smaller organization and reaching far fewer children in need of arts education.

Volunteers are so IMPORTANT to us-Thank you for your wonderful service, we truly appreciate all that you do Tom!

Can you share a message of appreciation to our donors and supporters who make our work possible?
THANK YOU for all of your hard work and dedication in advancing Art in Action’s mission and expanding access to arts education.

We at Art in Action are thankful for our amazing volunteers like Tom who give back and help us reach students across the country get art in their hands! If you would like to give back please send an email to volunteer@artinaction.org!
