Trojan Spirit in Action: A Recap of Our USC Alumni Volunteer Day
There is a special kind of energy that happens when alumni come together for a common cause; especially when that cause involves supporting the next generation of artists and creators.
This National Volunteer Month, we are shining a bright spotlight on a group of 11 incredible individuals from the USC Alumni Association who joined us for a day of high-impact service. Their mission? Helping us prepare for our upcoming annual fundraiser and ensuring local students have the art tools they need to succeed.
A Day of Creativity & Connection
The day was a whirlwind of productivity. Trojan volunteers jumped right into two of our most critical projects:
Fundraiser Prep: Volunteers put their creative hats on to wrap wine bottles and prepare artwork for transport. One volunteer noted that the wrapping process "required some creativity," making it a perfect fit for this group!
Art Kits for K-8: The team worked together to assemble and pack art materials for local elementary and middle school students. From counting supplies to sealing boxes, every action ensured that a child will soon have a fresh set of materials to explore their imagination.
What the Volunteers Had to Say
The feedback from the event was overwhelmingly positive. When asked what they liked most about the day, the answers were that they left feeling "heart-warmed," "uplifted," and "productive."
Highlights from the team:
"I enjoyed working as a team member to help the organization’s mission."
"Packing art boxes—it’s fun to know that kids will be using what we packed."
"A great way to support children! Well organized, with good communication."
Beyond the tasks at hand, the day was about community. Many volunteers mentioned that meeting fellow alumni and "doing something that helps kids" was the highlight of their experience.
The Why: Why Arts Education Matters
We asked our volunteers why they believe arts education is vital, and their responses remind us why we do what we do every day:
On Expression: "It allows children to express themselves and find new passions."
On Equity: "Every child deserves art... the arts are often forgotten when it comes to funding."
On Development: "It allows children to use a different part of their brains and embrace creativity from a young age."
Thank You, Trojans!
To our 11 USC volunteers: Thank you. And a special shoutout to USC Alum and former Art in Action Board member, Willow Bechtel, for coordinating this annual project. Your hands-on help goes a long way in keeping art in our schools. You proved that when the Trojan family shows up, they don't just bring their "Fight On" spirit—they bring a whole lot of heart.
Happy National Volunteer Month!
