Judy Sleeth Scholarship 2017
The generous donors to this year’s Judy Sleeth Scholarship Fund are making a tremendous difference in the lives of 700 students at TEN low-income schools starting in September. With their help, we raised $25,000 to provide these students with the arts education they deserve.
We’re grateful to Judy Sleeth and her devoted selection committee who carefully reviewed the thirty-three powerful and compelling applications received. After contacting each school and considering a number of important factors to the success of the program, we are pleased to announce the committee chose these ten Title I schools as recipients of this year’s scholarship funds:
Abraham Lincoln Elementary Santa Rosa, CA
Adelante Dual Language Academy San Jose, CA
Barack Obama Learning Academy Markham, IL
Greenview Elementary Jamestown, OH
Joseph Weller Elementary Milpitas, CA
Los Cerritos Elementary South San Francisco, CA
Mayo Elementary Compton, CA
Prescott Elementary Dubuque, IA
Rolling Hills Middle School Watsonville, CA
Starmont Middle School Arlington, IA
To ensure the successful implementation and sustainability of the program, the scholarship includes an Art Coordinator to work closely with the schools, all art materials needed, access to online teacher training and lessons, and ongoing support year-round. These components are critical to the success of the scholarship program.
The Judy Sleeth Scholarship Fund commenced in 2016 to honor Judy Sleeth, Art in Action’s founder. Last year the scholarship impacted 560 students in 7 schools throughout California.
