Announcement: Art in Action receives $85k grant from The Junior League of Palo Alto•Mid Peninsula, Inc!
Art in Action is thrilled to announce that we have been chosen as a recipient of an $85K grant from The Junior League of Palo Alto•Mid Peninsula, Inc! The grant deepens the current partnership between AiA and the Junior League and will be renewed for three years. Through a smaller JLPA•MP grant last year that was focused on supporting STEAM for girls, AiA began working with middle school girls in the East Palo Alto community to develop STEAM lessons and explore professions in STEM fields. We worked with fourteen 8th grade girls from Aspire Phoenix Academy on the development of one STEAM lesson and provided a series of mentorship lectures by women in various STEM fields.
With this three-year partnership, AiA will expand our work with girls in East Palo Alto through an in-depth speaker series, mentorship program, and STEAM lesson development. This grant will allow AiA to develop a full line of STEAM curricula that will be brought to our schools nationwide. In addition to our work on new lessons, AiA will be partnering with the Junior League to increase our impact in the local community. Plans include showcasing STEAM lessons at local STEAM festivals, collaborating on the creation of a community mural, and packaging art kits for under-resourced schools in the area heavily impacted by distance learning challenges.
The partnership with the Junior League and the unwavering support from their membership is vital to the success of the creation of Art in Action STEAM lessons, and we are incredibly excited to move forward together on this project!
