Internationally Acclaimed Sculptor Bruce Beasley is
Guest Speaker at Art in Action Event on March 9
Art in Action, a leading provider of K-12 visual art programs, will feature internationally acclaimed sculptor Bruce Beasley as guest speaker at the Art in Action annual luncheon, Atelier d'Artistes, to be held March 9, 2010, from 10 am to 2 pm at the Sharon Heights Golf & Country Club in Menlo Park.
Bruce Beasley is considered one of the most innovative sculptors on the West Coast. His monumental forms can be seen at Beijing’s Olympic Park, MOMA/NYC and SFMOMA, Stanford University, the United Terminal at SFO, Oakland Museum, the Djerassi Foundation, and many other locations. Palo Alto's new Mitchell Park Library and Community Center will feature at its entrance a blockish, arch-shaped sculpture by Beasley.
The event will honor Dick Sperisen, Coordinator Emeritus for Arts Education and School Design of the San Mateo County Office of Education, for his more than 50 years of contributions to the education of students in the county.
At the luncheon, seven local California artists will demonstrate their techniques, share stories with guests, and offer finished masterpieces for purchase. Student artists from Henry Ford Elementary School in Redwood City will demonstrate a painting project, and guests are encouraged to participate. A silent auction with many exciting products and services is included. The Atelier d’Artistes event is chaired by Karen Canty of Atherton.
