"Art in Action Presents Fourth Annual Summer Art Show"
Art in Action, a non-profit arts provider for students grades K-8, presents its fourth annual countywide summer art show, “Celebrate Imagination,” showcasing over 1000 outstanding works of art by Art in Action students across the Peninsula. Student art from 37 local schools will be on display June 1-30 at the Foster City, Redwood City, San Carlos, San Mateo, and Millbrae libraries. The artwork ranges from portraits and landscapes to still life and abstract design created with different media such as chalk, watercolor, oil pastel, and collage. Each project is inspired by an art history lesson in which the students learn to identify the style and techniques of the Great Masters, including Picasso and Van Gogh. Students create their own masterpieces based on their growing understanding of the world of art.
“When children see their work hanging on the walls with other outstanding student artwork, they experience the pride of personal expression and a profound sense of accomplishment,” says Art in Action founder and director Judy Sleeth. “By studying the works of famous artists, the students develop an appreciation of art history and learn to express their own ideas through art.”
Art in Action provides the school art curriculum in many local elementary and middle schools, and offers summer ARTcamps at several locations in San Mateo, San Francisco, and Santa Clara counties. For more information, contact Art in Action at (650) 566-8339 or www.artinaction.org.
