The Young at Art — March 4-8, 2008

The Atherton Fine Art Gallery featured Art in Action student work in the Young at Art show from March 4-8, 2008. Gallery owner Mark Gallagher generously framed and exhibited the student work. A reception for students and their families reflected the freshness and creativity of thirty young artists. The student projects included a series of Picasso-like faces painted by fourth graders from Highlands Elementary School in San Mateo. Fifth graders from Corte Madera painted delicious desserts that reflect the work of Wayne Thiebaud. Students from Nativity School in Menlo Park created flowers in the style of Georgia O'Keeffe. Impact was the theme of projects by eighth graders from Crystal Springs Uplands School. North Star Academy in Redwood City contributed a variety of artwork, including birds based on paintings by J. J. Audubon, color collages inspired by Robert Rauschenberg, and still life compositions by other modern artists.

Atelier d'Artistes — March 10, 2008

Art in Action's 2008 fundraiser, Atelier d’Artistes, featured an art show and spring luncheon on Monday, March 10, 2008 at the Sharon Heights Golf & Country Club. Featured guest speaker Laura Regan, an internationally acclaimed wildlife artist, shared photos and describing how teachers, her dad, and friends gave her the confidence and tools that inspired her beautiful paintings of rain forest animals. Six prominent California artists painted acrylic still lifes, oil and pastel portraits, and landscapes in oil and watercolor. These talented artists shared their techniques and stories with guests, and offered finished masterpieces for purchase. An art boutique and silent auction featured artwork, jewelry, books, children's toys, wine, gifts and other exciting products. Original student artwork was displayed, following a gallery show and exhibition at the Atherton Fine Art Gallery.
